Protest gutting school music programs - Filberts video goes viral

Brenda and Suzanne, aside from being the best looking of the Filberts, are music teachers in the Reynolds School District. They are about to lose their jobs as the district guts its music program. Brenda and Suzanne responded by writing a protest song, asking the legislature to free up Rainy Day Funds for the schools. They also made a music video, which has gone viral in the hallowed legislative halls down in Salem. If you care about music, education, or both, you should join the revolution! Write to your legislators today. Then join The Mighty Filberts at the Stand For Children rally, Saturday May 30, 11 AM, at Gresham High School. And put an umbrella in your yard! You can find links to the music video, the KOIN news story, the Oregonian article, and more, on our own YouTube Links page.

State Fair Fun

Ever wonder about the "glamerous" life of a musician? Here's a reality check. We arrived at the state fair a full two hours early to start unloading and setting up the equipment. It is a lengthy and back breaking part of the job that we don't particularly enjoy. We did have a great time at the state fair but the stage was about thirty feet to the left from the glass blower's roaring furnace. When we turned on our microphones it amplified the sound of the glass blower and it was akin to performing during a thunder storm. Let's not forget the noise of the chainsaw artist to the back of us, the blacksmith pounding iron to our right and the occassional freight train that passed just behind us. Still, we love it and we were happy to have the opportunity to perform.

What better audience could there be than to sing at local nursing home? The residents were so happy to see us and to hear our music. When we asked them for requests we sang "Home on the Range" several times because they enjoyed it so much that once just wasn't enough.

We were all touched when we saw the sweetest elderly man reach over to the woman sitting next to him and say "I'll never leave you, Honey" when we were singing "Who Will Watch the Old Home Place." When we left we asked how long they have been married and learned that he has a wife at home.
